The basic rule of jet racing is simple: first one across the finish line wins. Of course, there's plenty more to it than that, and this page is here to break it all down for you.
All teams must begin the race with a league-approved water assault rifle. Scattered through the course are other weapons, which teams are free to scoop up and use at their discretion. These include dual handguns, missile launchers, sniper rifles, mines, and other similar goodies, all designed to shut down the competition with bursts of water. We’ve also included a few extra surprises on each course, and we like to let the racers discover those as they go.
Before each race, competitors have a hand in choosing not only the number of laps, but the shape of the course itself. Each section of waterway in Tokyo can be safely gated at several key points, changing a small course to a large one or vice versa. Because of that, jet racers have to be ready for both sprints and marathons.
Jet racing on city waterways means pulling off some pretty tight cornering. Luckily, racing jet machines are specially designed for that. Just nudge your E.P. Drive at the start of a turn, release it in mid-turn, and you’ll give yourself an instant thrust of forward momentum. Learn to time that right, and you’ll slip through those corners like a fish in rapids.
Water isn’t asphalt, and that means jet racers have to think three-dimensionally. Lean back to keep your nose out of the water, minimizing water resistance and boosting your speed at the cost of maneuverability. Or dip your nose into the water to slow yourself down in a hurry and take complete control of your handling. Likewise, leaning into the proper angle makes the difference between a smooth jump and a messy one. Practice makes perfect!
Jet racers looking to challenge their peers can send invitations online, bringing up to four racers together from across the internet for a full-on showdown! Participate in friendly matches and show off for fun, or set up league-sanctioned ranked matches to climb the official leaderboards!
Using the latest in holographic technology, the ten top-ranking racers on any given day can upload their "ghosts," holographic recordings of their best races, for aspiring champions to race against. Reach the top ten yourself, and your competitors will learn from you!
